Maceo Plex

“Teaching yourself is the best way. When you have someone teaching or tutoring you, you tend to emulate. You don’t develop your own style.”

— Maceo Plex

Maceo Plex lives by his words. His unmistakable sound and immersive performances are a testament to an artist who has forged a path entirely his own.

With a career that Mixmag describes as “the stuff of legend,” Maceo Plex’s rise to the top of the underground dance music world has been nothing short of a modern musical myth.

From devastating techno anthems to intricate, cerebral IDM, his expansive catalog spans genres and continually redefines what it means to be a contemporary electronic artist. At one point, he simultaneously held the #1 position across three different genres on Beatport — a rare achievement that placed him firmly in a league of his own.

A true devotee to electronic music as an art form, Maceo’s career is driven by restless creativity. Never content with repetition, he consistently reshapes dance music in his own image, pushing both sound and performance into new territory. His creative output extends beyond a single identity: alongside Maceo Plex, he operates under additional aliases including Mariel Ito and Maetrik, each with its own distinct production approach and performance style.

Maceo Plex is a regular fixture on the world’s biggest stages, making high-profile appearances across Amsterdam, Berlin, Ibiza, New York, and anywhere the global dance music elite converge.

Born in Miami to first-generation Cuban immigrants, he grew up immersed in one of America’s most rhythm-rich cities. Drawn naturally to music, he became obsessed with IDM, techno, and breaks while navigating Miami’s legendary party scene.

His older brother, a professional dancer, introduced him to the city’s breakbeat and electro culture — a futuristic sound and movement that, fused with his Latin roots, planted the seeds for his ever-evolving musical identity.

In the early 1990s, Maceo relocated to Dallas, where his passion deepened. Determined to create, he saved his earnings from dishwashing at a local restaurant to purchase his first piece of production gear: an MPC drum machine. During the late-90s rave boom, producing under the name Eric Entity, he began building a global audience. Dallas became the foundation of his professional career, where he performed extensively under his live alias Maetrik.

The fully realized Maceo Plex identity would emerge in 2010, following a life-changing move to Valencia, Spain, where he and his wife left everything familiar behind in search of something more.

Landmark tracks such as Solar Detroit, Conjure Balearia, and Can't Leave You have amassed tens of millions of streams, becoming enduring staples of modern electronic music.

Maceo’s releases consistently bridge underground credibility with global reach, delivering music that is as emotionally resonant as much as being dance floor ready.

A pivotal moment in his career came with his now-legendary Boiler Room performances in Berlin and Ibiza, pivotal moments that captured Maceo in total control - the former remains one of the platform’s most referenced performances.

In 2023, he released ‘93, one of his most personal and cohesive statements to date. Drawing from formative moments in his youth, the album fuses techno, electro, breaks, and IDM into a cinematic narrative that feels both nostalgic and forward-facing.

That depth was echoed during his recent track breakdown of Solitary Daze at Amsterdam Dance Event in 2025, where he offered rare insight into his creative process. With multiple new releases on the horizon, Maceo Plex continues to evolve — pushing his sound forward while reaffirming his place as one of electronic music’s most enduring and visionary figures.
